Welcome
Welcome to the SPRinG (Social Pedagogic Research into
Group-work) web site. The project is part of a larger research
programme on teaching and learning, funded by the Economic and
Social Research Council (ESRC). The project began in January
2000 and was due to end in September 2005 but continues in a
number ways. It involved collaborating with teachers to enhance the
effective use of grouping and group work across Key Stages 1 to
3. This web site is one of two, the other which focuses more on
KS3, can be accessed
here.
The
SPRinG
project is jointly conducted by the
Institute of Education,
University of London,
Faculty of
Education, University of Cambridge and
The
Education Research Centre, University of Brighton. The project
is the first large scale study designed to develop and evaluate
effective group-work in everyday primary and secondary school
classroom settings.
The project aims to enhance the learning potential of pupils (at
Key Stages 1-3) working in classroom groups by actively
involving teachers in a programme designed to raise levels of
group-work during typical classroom learning activities. Each
site has responsibility for a key stage. Key Stage 1 is
co-ordinated in Brighton, Key Stage 2 in London and Key Stage 3
in Cambridge.
The project is funded by the
Economic and Social Research Council as part of the
Teaching and Learning Research
Programme.
